great charcoal right when you need it
Just used the briquettes for a 5 hour smoke at 275 in my Kamado Joe jr.Very pleased with the results.Briquettes were very efficient and had not much more ash than lump.Smoke taste was mild and pleasant.
Another great product from Fogo. I wanted to try in my Oklahoma Joe (1986 model) to increase time between fire tending. 10 pounds of Fogo Briquets I got 7 hours at 250 degrees. Ribs turned out excellent. Fantastic product. Also used blazer ball and Fogo firestarters.
Thought I would start the day with a Fogo briquettes review! Have you tried it yet? I liked it in my kettle — burns hot and clean! It’s a little slow to light, with some nasty smoke, but clears up nicely and works really well. And it has a much more neutral flavor on your food, so if you don’t like that Kingsford taste, this is a good choice, plus it’s hotter for longer. In my Kamado, it was ok, but I don’t see it replacing lump. It took a good hour for the nasty smoke to clear so I could get started, it left twice the ash as lump, and it was gone in about 5 hours. But, it held a lower temp steady (about 200), and when I wanted to increase to about 275, it was easy to do, and held steady there, too. So, in a nutshell, it’s nastier to start, but after a while, it makes a nice hot fire that doesn’t flavor your food a lot, and it is easier to run at a lower temp, at least in a Kamado. But at around 275-300, it is gone in about 5 hours. Overall, I liked it, and will keep it on hand, though I probably will not use it often in my Kamado.
I love ordering FOGO charcoal, ships fast, burns hot, always large chunks and never disappointed
