Which FOGO Bag should I use?

We are constantly asked “what are the differences in FOGO’s different bags of charcoal?”  It is the number one question that we get asked so we figured that we would break it down for you.  In this video, we go through each of our 3 main types, Premium, Super Premium and Eucalyptus.  We discuss the sizes, the main uses for each one, flavors, where our woods are sourced and all other aspects of each one.

Just a little bit to pique your interest.  FOGO is made from a blend of aromatic woods in Central America.  That is what gives FOGO its unique flavor profile that it is prized for. This area in the world  is famous for its high quality, shade grown coffee.  Those shade trees only serve one purpose, to provide just the right amount of shade to make world class coffee.  They are constantly trimmed, removed, replaced, and replanted.  The wood is too short and doesn’t work for timber, so it has been left to rot on the coffee plantations.

FOGO and the plantations work together to recover the wood and make it into the world's best charcoal. We would love to hear from you and find out if you have any other questions that we did not cover in the video.  Let us know in the comments if there is anything that we can answer for you.

  • I’m a big fan of FOGO charcoal, however, I typically use the Black Bag Premium and I’ve yet to see chunks the size that were on your video. In fact, I’ve got a bucket full of pebble size pieces from my last bag that just fall through my Kick Ash Basket. Kind of disappointed in the size of the chunks in the Premium lately. But I still love the charcoal.

  • How do you know which string to pull to open the bag of charcoal? I once watched an episode of “Dirty Jobs” with Mike Rowe attempting to open bags (unsuccessfully).
I think the pull string should be a different color, to show us Dummies what to pull.
